This page explains what information we collect when you read or interact with the Broadifi blog at blog.broadifitech.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to keep it short and in plain language. If anything is unclear, write to us at contact@broadifitech.com.
Who we are
The blog is run by Broadifi Technologies LLP, Module 206, Webel IT Park, Tower 1, BN-4, Sector V, Kolkata, West Bengal 700091, India. For this blog, we decide what personal data is collected and how it is used, so we are responsible for it.
What we collect
When you read the blog. We use Google Analytics (through Google’s Site Kit plugin) to understand which posts people read and how they find us. It records things like the pages you visit, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (country or city). Google processes your IP address to work this out. We use this only in aggregate, to decide what to write next. We do not use it to identify you.
Server and security logs. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, the page requested and the time) to keep the site running and secure.
When you leave a comment. We collect what you type in the comment form (your name, email address, optional website and the comment itself), plus your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. Your name, website and comment are shown with the comment. Comment avatars may be provided by Gravatar, a service that receives a scrambled version (a hash) of your email address to look up a profile picture you may have set there.
When you email us. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, and we use it only to reply and continue the conversation.
We do not run ads on the blog, we do not sell personal data, and we do not ask for sensitive information.
Cookies
Cookies are small files your browser stores. This blog uses very few:
| Cookie | Set by | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Counts visits and tells new visitors from returning ones | Up to 2 years |
comment_author_* | WordPress | Remembers your name, email and website if you tick “Save my name…” when commenting | About 1 year |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | WordPress | Only for people who log in to manage the blog | Session or up to 1 year |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. To stop Google Analytics specifically, you can use Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The blog will keep working either way.
Why we use this information
- To understand which posts are useful and improve what we publish.
- To show and moderate comments, and to keep spam out.
- To keep the site secure and working.
- To reply when you contact us.
We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the blog and keeping it secure, and on your consent where the law requires it (for example, the optional comment cookie). Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we process personal data only for these clear purposes.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the services that help us run the blog:
- Google, for analytics (Google privacy policy).
- Hostinger, which hosts the blog (Hostinger privacy policy).
- Gravatar (Automattic), if comment avatars are shown (Automattic privacy policy).
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to. These providers may process data outside India, including in the United States and the European Union, under their own safeguards.
How long we keep it
- Comments and the details attached to them: until the comment is deleted. You can ask us to remove your comment at any time.
- Analytics data: for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, after which Google deletes it automatically.
- Emails: for as long as the conversation needs, then deleted or archived.
- Server logs: for the period our host keeps them for security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, and you can withdraw consent you have given. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. In India, you can raise a grievance with us first and, if it is not resolved, approach the Data Protection Board of India.
To make any request, email contact@broadifitech.com. We will reply within 30 days.
Embedded content
Some posts may include content from other sites, such as videos, code snippets or social posts. That content behaves as if you visited the other site directly, and the other site may collect data or set cookies under its own policy.
Children
The blog is written for working developers and businesses. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Security
The blog runs over HTTPS, admin access is limited and protected, and we keep software up to date. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
